Capstone – Project
Students will work with a team of experts who are looking to bring a device to market that improves decannulation (removal of a tracheostomy tube). The goal of this device is to improve patient’s quality of life and reduce complications/death rates each year.
A Collaboration Between
A tracheostomy is a medical procedure that involves creating an opening in the neck in order to place a tube into a person’s windpipe. The tube is inserted through a cut in the neck below the vocal cords. This allows air to enter the lungs. Breathing is then done through the tube, bypassing the mouth, nose, and throat. During decannulation (removal of a tracheostomy tube) serious complications can develop including breathing obstruction. Our team of experts have developed a medical device which:
• Improves patient’s quality of life.
• Alerts caregivers to potential obstructions before they become life threatening.
• Reduces complications and death rates each year
Our team of experts would like to bring the device into the market.
Team Responsibilities:
Students will be responsible for the development of business model(s) and business plan(s). This would include:
• Researching, analyzing and sizing the tracheostomy/decannulation market
• Researching, analyzing and sizing the medical devices market
• Interacting with organizational and individual investors
• Developing a business plan(s) for bringing the product to the market
• Developing a business model for the product after market introduction
Team Qualifications:
Ability to:
• Quickly learn the clinical aspects of tracheostomy and decannulation
• Assist in bringing the product to clinical trail
• Develop marketing materials, promotional plans, training plans, and forecasts
• Contribute to the development of global brand strategies for the products including value propositions
• Partner with the inventors to lead the team from product conception to launch
• Build collaborative relationships with physicians, organizational and individual investors
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable with ambiguity and change
