Capstone – Project

Students will work with this company to help develop an intelligent & automated decision support tool to innovate the microgrid discovery process.

A Collaboration Between

Engagement Synopsis

We live in an increasingly decentralized society. From the internet to digital currency, centralized systems are becoming a thing of the past. Microgrids – decentralized energy grids – promise to bring similar transformations to America’s aging and centralized power grid. However, despite the microgrid industry experiencing a 44% CAGR (Statista, 2021), microgrid adoption in the US remains slow due in part to the cumbersome processes necessary to vet their feasibility.

Our company is working to change this by developing an intelligent and automated decision support tool to innovate the microgrid discovery process. By automating the process of compiling and analyzing key data points, and developing novel algorithms to support insight extraction, the proposed tool seeks to (1) decrease the overall time required to identify suitable microgrid locations (2) democratize the process of microgrid discovery and (3) provide predictive capabilities. To help us in our efforts, we are currently looking for 5-6 student candidates to join our project and assist us with the following topics:

Understand the market dynamics in which we operate
Understand our unique value propositions (UVP)
Understand our go-to-market strategy
Round out our business model
Design technical structure of our tool

Ideally, 3-4 candidates will have the following skills and interests:

Market research
Financial projections
Business analytics
Strategic thinking
Basic understanding of the entrepreneurial journey

Ideally, 1-2 candidates will have the following technical skills and interests:

Basic understanding of programming languages (R, Python, SQL)
Basic understanding of AI/ML
Data visualization, preparation, manipulation, and analysis
Wireframing & UI/UX design
