Capstone – Project

Students will work to asses walking function in the real world through AI powered Insoles.

A Collaboration Between

Engagement Synopsis

The AI-Sole is an AI-powered wearable system that fits inside regular sneakers and enables accurate, affordable measures of ambulatory function (walking/running) in controlled and real-life environments. At the core of the technology are machine learning inference models that leverage previously collected data to reduce measurement errors, thereby producing highly accurate estimates of spatial, temporal and kinetic gait parameters even when using affordable, mid-level sensors.

The AI-Sole technology has gone through several validation studies with healthy individuals and diverse clinical populations. The system is now ready for commercialization through the creation of a new startup. The ultimate goal of this semester-long project is to make this startup idea ready for the investor pitch.

To achieve this goal, the student team will need to:
Understand the technology/product: connected wearables and “smart” footwear
Understand the market: two potential markets for the application of this technology are
clinical research market (pharma, academia), and
consumer market (sports, fitness).
Understand the industry: study existing strategies, services, data infrastructures and regulations/policies related to Smart Wearable Devices and Digital Health
Understand the customers: inform decisions on the best go-to-market strategy.
Understand the investors: identify who are the right investors to pitch to

Team Responsibilities:
Identify customers (e.g., interviews, customer data mining, etc.) and create customer profiles in each market.
Propose go-to-market strategy.
Research competitors and conduct industry analysis (e.g., Porter Five Forces)
Run SWOT analyses and develop business strategies
Make financial projections and propose financing strategies
Draft a business model canvas and business plan based on the research activities
Prepare materials for a potential investor pitch

Team Member Qualifications:
Familiarity with common machine learning techniques for IoT technologies and connected wearable devices.
Familiarity with common platforms and cloud technologies to share and process personal data remotely.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with all levels of management
Team player with the ability to build productive relationships
Business writing and presentation skills
Knowledge of project management
Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office and data visualization tools
